Trailer park hippie killer!

Mesa trailer park find. I wish I got ahold of it before the brutal disassembly. But still a total time capsule disco chopper relic. Can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than some trailer park archeology.

Machine shop

Oh yeah, new improved machine shop is up and running.

Back in the Saddle

Progress was made on DJ's Shovelhead. It's starting to look like a motorcycle again. Rode my Shovelhead around town last night. Checked in on some old friends. Nothing puts your head back on straight like riding a bike. Get some before it's too late!

Hieroglyphics

Strange cryptic messages present torment in my fevered delirium. Yet through much study, their mysteries have been revealed. So I am simplifying the technology and bypassing the broken and missing low voltage electronics on the lathe. Replacing switches, contacts, and relays with one nice high voltage drum switch. The good Dr. Frankenstien would be proud.

Never give up !

I fixed the motor bracket and wired the motor on the new used lathe. It ran one direction but just buzzed in the other. After further inspection I noticed the motor case was split the entire length. Studied it and decided to strip the case and weld it up. Get after the Chinese iron with the welder on full power, preheated with mapp gas and peened the welds. When I go to put the guts back the case is distorted so it is a tight fit. So I use the press to fit it and blow out the other side of the case. Shut off the light and walk away. This morning I call the manufacturer to buy a new motor. Parts guy is late for work, so I look at my mess in the shop. I decide one more try. I line up the guts clamp the case together and weld just the ends with every thing inside. I put it back together and it works in both directions. Ignorance and perseverance pays off again.

South Dakota - Bison and Donkey traffic jams. The donkeys were friendly. The Bison, not so much. Had to be extra careful that the bikes didn't make them mad.

SU carb & new ignition

Put a trick electronic ignition and a nice used S.U. carb on my shovelhead. Feels way faster than the manual advance points and the Keihin I had. The carb sticks out a mile, maybe even a mile and a half. If you have enough patience for one of these, they sure do meter fuel nice. Don't forget to oil your slide. Now I get to learn to start this thing all over again.
